We are readers!!
St. Patrick's Day means everything rainbow - and that's exactly what our room turned into to celebrate! We did lots of activities with a rainbow theme, and at the end of the day, we even made rainbow pancakes!
Our 100th day was filled with some math mission fun! We had to crack the case to find Superhero Zero to be able to enjoy our 100th day treat! Lots of math, reading and writing went into our challenges, but we ended the 100th day successfully!
Yes, it snowed in our classroom! The classroom was turned into a winter wonderland for a day of winter learning. We learned about snowflakes, did some snowflake math, read partner plays with a winter theme, and ended the day with a scientific activity comparing snow to different materials. Even the cleanup was fun!
It has been a 20 year tradition in our class to go outside and decorate a night tree for the animals. Students created lots of different edible ornaments that the animals could enjoy. We went outside and decorated a tree near our classroom window. We can't wait to watch the birds enjoy their snacks!
Can you create a scarecrow that stands up using only a can of play dough and a straw? That was the challenge we faced this week. It took a lot of problem-solving and some teamwork, but in the end we had quite a few different scarecrows that stood and scared away the crows.
It’s always an exciting day when the fire department comes to visit! We learned about how to keep our house safe from fires, how to have an escape plan and what to do if there is a fire. Every student got to greet the firefighters and we had a great time looking at all the trucks and equipment!
First graders are scientists! We learned all about what science is and what scientists do-then we put our knowledge to work doing our own experiments and reading about the results. We are looking forward to doing many more scientific activities this year!
